The students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry can also perform extracurricular external internships, which are those performed voluntarily during the training period, not being part of the study plan. However, they are reflected in the academic record and, if so, in the Diploma Supplement.

In the University of Vigo, students enrolled in subjects linked with the basic, generic and specific competences to be acquired in the degree can perform extracurricular external internships. For Bachelor’s Degree students, it is necessary to have passed 50% of the credits of the degree.

The external internships can be carried out in collaborating entities, like companies or institutions, both public and private, in the national or international level. They can also be performed in premises and services of the University of Vigo which are not being used for the teaching activity. According with the regulation of the University of Vigo, up to 240 hours of internships can be performed, unpaid, and therefore, free for the company.

For external internships to be performed there must be an educative cooperation agreement between the collaborating entities and the University of Vigo. In the case of the University services, the agreement can be substituted by an internal document.

The Foundation University of Vigo (FUVI) is in charge of the tramitation and management of the extracurricular internships of University of Vigo students.

There are two management procedures for extracurricular internships:

  1. The Foundation University of Vigo and/or the university open public calls with the internships offered by the collaborating entities which students can request: the FUVI makes the first preselection among the candidates to ensure that they meet the established requirements of regulations and calls, and, afterwards, is the collaborating entity who does the final selection of elected candidates.
  2. Students can contact a company or institution on their own to request performing an extracurricular internship: in this case, they must contact the Foundation University of Vigo and provide the entity’s information and the internship proposal and the FUVI will contact the company to sign an agreement which enables its incorporation.
