I Chemistry Olympiad for Secondary School 3rd and 4th grades
The Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Vigo promotes the I Chemistry Olympiad for Secondary School 3rd and 4th grades.
What moves us in this adventure?
- Show students that they are finishing high school that science, and in particular Chemistry, can be a lot of fun.
- Introduce them to the Faculty of Chemistry and the campus.
- Encourage skills such as teamwork and time management.
- Encourage interaction between students from different centers.
- Strengthen the relationship with secondary schools, showing them other programmes in which our Faculty takes part such as StemBach.
- Make the Faculty of Chemistry visible to society.
How are we going to do it?
As part of the day will be organised in the laboratories of the Faculty of Chemistry, we want for this first edition no more than 80 participants.
Each school will be able to enroll a maximum of between 6 and 10 3rd and 4th grades students, according to the students in these grades.
The tests will be conducted by teams, which will include students from different centers.
The day, very playful, will take place on June 15 and, as you can see in the given schedule, consists mainly of two parts:
- Chemistry-themed Xincana: Through twelve tests distributed on a circuit on the mountain near the Faculty of Chemistry, students will demonstrate their skills in both chemistry and logic and teamwork.
- Practices in the Faculty of Chemistry teaching laboratories: the participants will work in a real laboratory and will carry out autonomously practices adapted to their age and knowledge.
The Day planning é:
- 9:30 to 10:00 h: reception of participants in the Faculty of Chemistry.
- 10:00 h: gymkhana.
- 11:30 h: team test in the laboratories of the Faculty of Chemistry.
- 13:00 h: snack and delivery of diplomas and awards.
- 14:00 h: end of the day.
All participants will receive a diploma accrediting their participation, in addition to material from the Faculty of Chemistry.
There will be a winning team, whose members will receive a special diploma and a gift.
To organise and develope the event we will have the collaboration of both the administration and services staff and the teaching and research staff.
