Subjects in the Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry’s Study Plan are distributed in 5 modules.

  • The Basic Module is taught during the first year of the Bachelor’s Degree and includes 60 ECTS credits in basic education subjects for students to achieve, from previous knowledges corresponding Baccalaureate, a basic education in sciences, specially in Chemistry, which enables them to understand and acquire knowledges and skills to develop in more specialised modules.
  • The Essential Module is constituted by 108 ECTS mandatory credits which shape the essential core of Chemistry and include subjects in Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. This subjects are taught in 6 ECTS subjects, homogeneously distributed during the second and third year, as this distribution is considered to ease the acquisition of competences by students.
  • The Complementary Module of 24 mandatory ECTS includes subjects closed related with Chemistry like Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry or Chemistry of Materials. Following the recommendations on ANECA’s White Book, this module also include the subject Project, as one of the professional duties of chemists is to draft and execute projects related with Chemistry. Subjects from this module are developed in the second and third year, as well as in the first term of the fourth year.
  • The Bachelor’s Degree Final Project Module is on the second term of the fourth year and consists on the drafting of the Bachelor’s Degree Final Project, with the objective of integrally prove the acquisition of the competences of a graduated in Chemistry. The Bachelor’s Degree Final Project is to last 18 mandatory ECTS, and enables to go for the EuroBachelor in Chemistry label for the degree.
  • The Optional Module is distributed in two terms of the fourth year and enables students to take 30 ECTS in Optional Subjects to deepen and widen knowledges and competences in the most specialised aspects of Chemistry. As it was previously said, in this module it is also included the possibility of perform external internship which enable students to establish a first contact with the world of work in order to enhance their employability. The optional subjects are organised in two itineraries, which enable students to get one of the two specialisations. On the one hand, the contents in the specialisation of “Advanced Chemistry” are focused in deepen in advanced aspects of Chemistry and in present the professional profiles more related with teaching and researching. On the other hand, the specialisation “Applied Chemistry” deepens in those chemical contents applied to industry and in the more applied aspects of Chemistry, and complements the education of future graduated in professional aspects. It should be indicated that it is also possible for students to don’t chose any specialisation and chose 30 ECTS in Optional Subjects without following any specific pattern.

Specialisations

The itinerary for each of the indicated specialisations include the following subjects.

Specialisation “Advanced Chemistry” (30 ECTS): In this itinerary 24 ECTS of the specialisation must be attended, distributed in the following subjects:

  • Extension of Analytical Chemistry (6 ECTS)
  • Nanochemistry (6 ECTS)
  • Organometallic Chemistry (6 ECTS)
  • Stereoselective Synthesis of Bioactive Compounds (6 ECTS)

Students can chose the other 6 Optional ECTS within the Optional Subjects offer for both specialisations following time compatibilities.

Specialisation “Applied Chemistry” (30 ECTS): In this itinerary 18 ECTS of the specialisation must be attended, distributed in the following subjects:

  • Quality in Analytical Laboratories (6 ECTS)
  • Industrial Chemistry (6 ECTS)
  • External internships (6 ECTS)

Students can chose the other 12 Optional ECTS within the Optional Subjects offer for both specialisations following time compatibility.

Option “Without specialisation” (30 ECTS): In this possibility, students can chose the 30 Optional ECTS among all the Optional Subjects following time compatibility.
